2007 Prom Dresses - Fashion and Style
Looking beautiful this season is all about being unique and
sexy. Make sure you try loads of different styles of dresses so
that you really find the one that was made just for you. Also
make sure that the dress fits you perfectly, check that its not
too big or too small as this can really stress you out on your
special evening.
Column Styles
- This is a very classic dress style, but has been brought back into the light by celebrities such as actress
Emily Blunt (The Devil Wears Prada) and Reese Witherspoon (Just Like Heaven). All over the red carpet
this year we have seen column style dresses, which is no wonder as it is the perfect style for those with a
luscious figure. There are really two column styles however: firstly there is the all-down style where there is
a simple piece of fabric that flows right down to you feet (this type ought to be worn by the slimmer average
woman) and secondly there is the gathered chiffon look, in which the fabric is draped to highlight the bust
and create a waist (this is the ultimate style for anyone with a generous figure).
Backless Gowns
- Backless dresses look great on those who want to show off part of their body, but not choose the most
obvious one. The small of a womans back is known to be one of the most alluring parts of a woman, and
showing it off can make you stand out from the crowd. Be sure to give your back a thorough 'prep' before
you put on your dress: exfoliate, fake-tan, moisturise and perhaps get a salon massage and body mask, in
order to make sure your skin is in tip-top condition. Also, be careful in the underwear that you choose, buy a
backless bra that 'sticks-on' at the front, and make sure you try it on before your special evening to be sure
that it is comfortable and safely stuck.
Short Skirts
- This trend is one that everyone ought to take note of as this style can be suitable for all shapes and sizes,
as well as suiting all occasions. Every prom has a slightly differing dress code, and to make sure you
aren't the odd one out go for a short skirted style (not every prom requires floor-length gowns). Again, make
sure that you prep your skin before showing it off, it will totally depend on you as to whether you exfoliate,
moisturise, self-tan or mask your legs, and to whether you do this at home or book an appointment at your
nearest salon. When choosing a short skirt style gown make sure that you don't choose something with a
low cut neckline as this will make you and the dress look cheap.
Bright Colours
- Bright colours are seen all over the catwalks this year in both spring/summer 07 and the autumn/winter
07 runways. When choosing a bright coloured dress to wear, choose one that flatters your skin tone before
thinking about style: for pale skin tones think reds and greens and for those with warmer skin tones think
pinks, purples and blues (remember all skin tones look good in deep purples and turquoise). The next
thing to remember is that there are several shades and tones of each bright colour: for instance, take
turquoise, it can be bought in some sort of 'polyblend' or even a mixed cotton which will look very cheap or
you could buy it in a linen or a silk/satin which will make the colour look rich and expensive. Really look
closely at the finish, soft fabrics will compliment auburn, dark blonde and light brown hair colours and
harsher fabrics will look great on those with very dark brown, black or light blonde hair colours.
Detailed Corsets
- Detailing is everywhere at the moment. Buying a dress that has no detailing can be a statement piece,
but could end up looking boring and regular. For a really unique dress, choose one with a bit of detail. A
detailed bodice looks really fresh, whether that is from the neck down to the hipline or under the bust
highlighting the waist. Small appliqué or a jewelled approach look stunning, but beware that wherever
there is detailing, the eye is keen to follow, so make sure that the detail is on something you want to
emphasis, not something you want to hide.
